back with a limp….
Friday Oliver and I had a lovely day! We woke early (thanks garbage men!! ‘ppreciate it!), and walked to Mario Lanza park. I’ve never had a dog in the summertime, so I dont know the norm. But they recently re-did the dog run with a powdery gravel, and the effect is that it smells like a giant litter box. Except with more flies and larger amounts of poo.
Despite the unpleasant smells, we hung for a while there and Oliver met a little pug named Peanut. Those two were similar in size, but Peanut was outmatched in speed. Oliver ran laps around the picnic table while Peanut the Pug wheezed and squeaked to catch him. Sometimes for fun Oliver would just race to the other end of the park and back, to give Peanut a breather, and then continued to prance around with him. They played for a long while, until both puppies looked bored with each other and ready to move on.
We walked several more blocks to a cafe in the italian market. This was his first time dining outside w/ me and I could not have been happier. Him either!
Oliver was a great boy – sitting on my lap and watching the world go by outside while I drank some coffee and read a book. He was so well behaved he got the last little bite of my bagel as a prize.
We kept on walking in the market stopping to by some veggies and a house hold items – then walked on home. It was such a treat to have the morning off to be able to hang out in the city and take advantage of what it has to offer.
Oliver was pooped by the time he got home and curled up on the couch for a nap.
When he woke up -he was all limpy! poor guy! 4 days later and he is still a little limpy. I dont know if it was play time with Peanut or the long long walk – but he is back to no walks and being carried up and down our stairs. Such a pampered pooch!
He’s sitting next to me as a type this. Propped up on a pillow, trying his best to keep his little puppy eyes open, but the cool ac air is lulling him to naptime.
shhhh … i think he’s sleeping…

Oliver leg is healing fantastically! he has some calcification on his bone – but is running and JUMPING like a champ.
Since the warm weather, he’s taken to sitting on the back of the couch to look out of the windows.
Yesterday, he was in his usual spot, when a yippie dachshund walked by and was hanging out near the house for a bit. Well, Oliver didn’t take kindly to the intrusion and yip yapped with this dog for a while.
So I put on his new EAgles lease and took him out for a meet and greet. Oliver, meet Randy, Randy – Oliver. I thought they would instantly be friends! No DICE! Randy continued yipping – and Oliver peed in his general direction then hid behind my legs.
Oliver? WHAT? you’re all bark and no bite?! We continued our pleasant visit and then went back inside. Oliver told me later on that he wasn’t scared – he was just hot.
I’m not buying it! So much for a summer playmate!
