Good Morning! Rise and Shine!

Oliver does a good yawn and doggie stretch before coming out from under the covers.

‘Good morning Oliver, time to get a move on, we’re dropping you off at the vet! ‘

‘Oh! Yay! I wonder what they will say. Has it been three weeks yet? ‘

Nope, not yet. Just a bandage change today. And you better not chew this one off!’

Can I meet the baby???

Oliver and I were hanging out in the office today while I did some work from home. He was napping quietly, when I scooped him up to put him in his crate.

‘Sorry buddy, time to go to your little house, so I can hit the showers’. He looked at me funny. ‘Showering on a work at home day? what’s up?’

‘I’m going to meet little Choo Choo Charlie today!’, I told him.

‘Can I meet the baby? I’ll be gentle I promise! Babies love me – they are just my size!’

‘Aw little O-boy, not today. But I will make sure to tell Choo Choo you said ‘Hi’ and give him your tips on learning to crawl!’

Oliver gave a little huff, and put his head down on his paws, and cuddled with his squeaky duck. Thinking it was a sad substitute for little Choo Choo.

Time out corner.

Oliver has a few things on his mind. He’d love to tell you about his weekend. He’d love to chat about his visit with grandma and grandpa and trying doggie ice cream for the first time.

But he can’t.

Because he’s in the hot seat. He chewed at his bandages last night all the way down past his elbow, and exposed his pressure sore. He knows he’s not supposed to chew off his bandages, it’s like scratching at chicken pox, it will only make it worse.

So he’s in the time out corner, having a good think.

Three more weeks! at least!

Oliver wonders aloud if he has been in his cast for a year yet.

We are stuck in Penn Relay traffic, and he’s hot, and frustrated. “Not a year yet oliver, only a month. Dr says three more weeks and you’ll get xrays again to see if your leg is healed.”

He sighs, and looks out the window at the kids running in packs, training for some event.

Doggie Day care at the Vet

Oliver went to the vet today to get his bandage changed. We woke up rather early, and snoozed only 2 times! After I scooped him up to go outside, he saw a squirrel climing vines on the building next door. Oliver remarked at how frustrating it was to not be able to climb the vines. The squirrels don’t play fair.

We hopped in the car, and drove over to the vet. He’s been going to the Matthew J. Ryan Veterinary Hospital for his broken leg. Today, we were running late because of all the traffic of the Penn Relays. Oliver liked to watch all the buses and traffic. I however, didn’t like the traffic. He told me to relax, and he’s hard to argue with in the morning.

We got to the vet, and waited in the waiting room area with a few fiesty dogs. One giant rottweiler with a big waggy tongue was eying Oliver up. Oliver was interested for a moment, but was really excited when a little chubby beagle came in. ‘Hey!, he whined. ‘he’s just my size. Can I please jump down and play with him?’ ‘No. Have some water.’ ‘I dont want water, I just want to sniff that beagle.’ ‘No. Your leg is broken, you can’t hobble.’ Whine.

I left him with the vet resident, and told him to be good while I was away at work. ‘I always am!’ he said with a smile.

broken bones didn’t stop him from voting

oliver may have a broken leg, but he mannaged to hobble to the polls before they closed yesterday. He was surprised to find no handicap ramp, and had to hop up the stairs one at a time, shaking off the pollsters and politicos.

he walked to the table to sign in, and look at the bible they had on the table. turns out, oliver wasn’t registered this year. so i just voted while he chatted with a toy poodle who supports obama. the toy poodle was pretty convincing in his arguments.

this worried oliver, who was up until recently a hillary supporter.  who should oliver vote for?

after i got out of the booth, i scooped oliver up to carry him on home. too much hobbling isnt’ going to heal him! on the walk home he asked me who i was voting for. i told him i was voting Nader again, and he laughed right in my face! you’re throwing your vote away. maybe i am oliver – maybe i am…

who knows. all i know is that we really enjoy going to our local polling place and meeting neighbors and feeling all civic like.

love at first sight

Oliver was a rescue. We found him through, petfinder . The happy tails rescue found him in the Philly pound. We met him at Petsmart and adopted him the first day we saw him.

Here is a photo from our first meeting. He was a little shaky and unsure about walking around. We were suckers for him.

Oliver was fooling us though. As soon as we got him home he was running and jumping and chasing the cat around the house.

Meet Oliver a 10 month old italian greyhound/ chihuahua mix. He has a ton of energy and is super friendly. So much energy that he jumped and broke his arm. He is in a cast and a cone for a few more weeks. the posts on the right detail his cronicles.
